Welcome Home! It’s time for Alumni Reunion

Join us for Baylor College of Medicine’s annual Alumni Reunion, April 3-5, 2024, at Hotel ZaZa – Houston Museum District, where you can reconnect with classmates and take advantage of exclusive programming. You will receive the early-bird rate if you register by Jan. 15.

Baylor has accomplished a great deal in the past year and has exciting plans on the horizon. Paul Klotman, M.D., Baylor president, CEO and executive dean, will give the latest updates about Baylor’s incredible work across its mission areas, from educating the next generation of healthcare providers and the opening of a regional School of Medicine campus, to new biomedical research discoveries to expanding Baylor Medicine’s clinical care programs and new locations.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming everything, and medicine is no exception. Vamshi Punugoti, M.S., executive director of Research and Data, will share how Baylor is incorporating this tool into clinical operations and what is being done to balance the benefits of AI while mitigating concerns for patient safety and privacy.

Pavan Reddy, M.D., director of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine and The John M. O’Quinn Foundation Chair in Cancer, will explain how the College is striving to deliver the best possible cell therapy to oncology patients, particularly those from socially disadvantaged populations.

The Keynote Luncheon will focus on the necessity of forming strategic partnerships and developing innovative solutions for leading transformational global health. Our panel of experts includes:

  • John L. Damonti, president, Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, and vice president, Corporate Philanthropy and Patient Assistance, Bristol Myers Squibb Company
  • Mogomotsi Matshaba, M.B.B.Ch. (M.D.), executive director, Botswana Baylor Children’s Clinical Centre of Excellence Trust, and clinical associate professor of Pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine
  • Michael B. Mizwa, chief executive officer, Baylor College of Medicine Global Health, and president, Texas Children’s Global

  • Rachel W. Davis, M.D. ’14, Res. ‘21, director, Baylor Center for Global Surgery, director, Global Surgery Track of the General Surgery Residency Program, and assistant professor, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine

Ricardo Nuila, M.D. ‘06, associate professor, Section of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine, and director, Humanities Expression and Arts Lab at Baylor College of Medicine, will read an excerpt from his acclaimed book, “The People’s Hospital: Hope and Peril in American Medicine.” Through the lens of Dr. Nuila’s experiences at Harris County’s Ben Taub Hospital, he will delve into a thought-provoking exploration of the challenges and triumphs of delivering healthcare to underserved, uninsured Houstonians.

Other highlights include department grand rounds, a welcome reception, campus tour and an evening reception to celebrate and reunite with classmates. As always, you will enjoy opportunities to interact with Baylor leaders and meet students during research poster presentations.
