Making healthcare more ethical for over 40 years
For over 40 years, Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy has been a steadfast leader in critically examining and effectively responding to the ethical challenges in healthcare and biomedical research.
Led by Director Amy McGuire, J.D., Ph.D., Leon Jaworski Professor of Biomedical Ethics, the Center is one of the largest bioethics centers in the country.
“I feel incredibly privileged to have spent 20 years at Baylor, working alongside colleagues whose dedication to humanizing and improving healthcare is truly inspiring,” Dr. McGuire said. “As we look to the future, the path ahead for our Center and the field of bioethics is full of promise.
“We’re deeply engaged in tackling some of the most critical issues facing biomedical research and clinical practice today: How much trust should users place in AI/ML systems, especially for critical clinical decisions? Should law enforcement have access to medical or research databases to aid in solving crimes? How do we ensure equitable access to genomic discovery and its applications? Are healthcare systems ethically prepared for the widespread clinical use of psychedelic medicines?
“Questions like these drive our work as we strive to create a more ethical and inclusive healthcare landscape.”
