Gabriella Perez, Ph.D. Candidate

Gabriella hails from the United States-Mexico border city of Laredo, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University – Kingsville with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. She completed a National Institutes of Health Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) at The University of Alabama at Birmingham before joining the Neuroscience Graduate Program at Baylor College of Medicine in 2017. Currently, Gabriella is a 2020 Howard Hughes Medical Institute Gilliam Fellow and a Ph.D. candidate in the laboratory of Joanna L. Jankowsky, Ph.D. Her Ph.D. studies focus on using mouse models of amyloid precursor to study amyloid plaque heterogeneity in Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to her research, Gabriella enjoys serving as a peer mentor for incoming graduate and Baylor PREP students and remains actively engaged in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that support the next generation of scientists.
