Welcome!

At Baylor, we are dedicated to improving health through science, innovation and scholarship. We understand that achieving this goal requires a strong, united community, particularly to empower our learners to realize their full potential. As the loved one of a Baylor trainee, you are integral to this mission, and we invite you to join our efforts.

The Baylor College of Medicine Family Council exists to build meaningful connections between families of Baylor students, creating a supportive and engaged community that amplifies Baylor’s impact.

Our Purpose 

The Family Council is a collaborative group of parents and family members who share a commitment to:

Enhancing Family Engagement

The Council connects families with one another and with Baylor through events, resources and purposeful communication. 

Supporting Students

Council members participate in volunteer events that enhance the student experience and donate to programs and initiatives that help students thrive. 

Promoting Baylor

The Council advocates for Baylor’s mission and contributes to the philanthropic efforts that make a difference across Baylor’s education, research, healthcare and community mission areas.

Family Council Members 

Elise Neal 
Founding Member 
Parent of Samatha Neal, M.D. ’23 

Elise Neal is a former executive vice president and general counsel for Academy Sports + Outdoors, with earlier experience as a trial associate at Baker Botts. A graduate of Columbia Law School and Rice University, she brings a wealth of legal, leadership and governance expertise to her volunteer work. Mrs. Neal is actively involved in advancing healthcare, education and community initiatives through leadership roles with The Rose, MD Anderson Cancer Center and other nonprofit organizations. 

Susan Cohen 
Founding Member 
Parent of Brooke Cohen, M.D. candidate ’27 

Susan Cohen is a seasoned leader in the semiconductor industry, specializing in customer-focused solutions. She currently serves as senior applications engineering manager at Altera Corporation, where she drives customer experience strategy for Quartus software tools, system solutions and open-source offerings. Previously, she managed North American Technical Communications at Intel, leading customer support resources for new product launches. Her career also includes engineering and marketing roles at Texas Instruments and Motorola. Mrs. Cohen holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Her daughter, Brooke, is a third-year medical student at Baylor who obtained her B.S. in biomedical engineering from Cornell University.
