Professor and Russell and Mary Hugh Scott Chair of Urology Michael Coburn, M.D., receives the Distinguished Career Award from the Caribbean Urological Association 

Professor and Russell and Mary Hugh Scott Chair of Urology Michael Coburn, M.D., was awarded the Distinguished Career Award at the 2023 annual meeting of the Caribbean Urological Association (CUA).  

An honorary member of the CUA, Dr. Coburn’s career has spanned four decades and has been filled with numerous awards and recognition. A graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Coburn obtained his medical degree with Honors from the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Coburn completed an internship, urology residency and fellowship training at Baylor of Medicine before taking over as chief of Urology at Ben Taub Hospital from 1990 to 2012. In 2011, Dr. Coburn was elevated to chairman after holding the title of interim chair since 2008.  

An active member of the urological community and a member of over 20 professional organizations, this award marks one of many Dr. Coburn has received throughout his career, including the Dean of Medical Education’s Service Award in appreciation for outstanding dedication and service to the educational mission in faculty development, Fulbright & Jaworski LLP Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching and Evaluation, Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education, Fulbright & Jaworski LLP Faculty Excellence Award for Educational Leadership and the Fulbright & Jaworski LLP Excellence Award for Development of Enduring Educational Materials.
