Christoper Haas, M.D., Res. ‘17, MPH

Christopher Haas, M.D., Res. ’17, MPH, received his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He started his career, working first as a test engineer and then as a systems engineer for the Raytheon Company, in a group specializing in satellite ground system vehicle maintenance software, including vehicle calibration activities and orbit adjust maneuvers. Wanting to combine his passion for the fields of aerospace and medicine, Dr. Haas received his medical degree from the University of Colorado Denver and completed his internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He subsequently completed an aerospace medicine residency and a Master of Public Health degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch.

In 2019, Dr. Haas was hired on to the Human Health and Performance Contract as the technical integration lead for the Orion spacecraft. As a member of the Crew Health Team, Dr. Haas maintains awareness of health-related concerns related to the design and development of the Orion capsule. He also has provided International Space Station mission support to Expeditions 69S and 70S in Houston and in Russia and Kazakhstan. In 2023, Dr. Haas was selected as the deputy crew surgeon for the Artemis II mission and has been supporting the team during training, operational readiness tests and flight product development. Dr. Haas works as a hospitalist on the wards and in the intensive care unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and he also volunteers as an attending physician at St. Vincent’s Student Clinic in Galveston, Texas.
