Megan Bullerwell, DNP ’13, CRNA, CHSE, is an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and the School of Health Professions at Baylor College of Medicine. Since 2017, she has held the position of associate director for the Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia Program at Baylor. Dr. Bullerwell earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Sonoma State University in California. After two years of clinical practice in intensive care, she relocated to Texas to pursue advanced training in nurse anesthesia. She graduated in 2011 from the inaugural class of Baylor College of Medicine’s Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia Program, marking the beginning of a career deeply rooted in both clinical excellence and educational leadership.

Following her graduation, Dr. Bullerwell joined the faculty at Baylor, initially serving as a full-time clinician at Ben Taub Hospital, one of Houston’s most demanding trauma centers. In 2015, she transitioned into a dual academic and clinical role, where she continues to teach and mentor students while delivering high-acuity anesthesia care.

Dr. Bullerwell is particularly passionate about the education and clinical management of complex, high-risk patient populations. Her areas of expertise include advanced airway management, pulmonary dysfunction and trauma anesthesia. A dedicated educator, she became a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator in 2021 and a member of Baylor’s Master Teacher Fellowship Program in the 2023–2024 cohort.

Dr. Bullerwell has served on the Baylor College of Medicine Alumni Executive Committee for seven years, represents the School of Health Professions as a faculty senator, and holds numerous committee leadership roles within the institution. Nationally, she has served on the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology’s Education Committee for three consecutive years. In 2024, she presented her work on establishing boundaries with adult learners at the International Academy for Professionalism in Healthcare’s Annual Meeting.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Bullerwell finds balance through family life. She and her husband are the proud parents of two young boys and spend as much time outdoors as possible hiking, exploring and staying connected to nature, a nod to her California upbringing.

Dr. Bullerwell is incredibly grateful to the members of the Baylor College of Medicine community, who have become her second family. They have shaped her as both a provider and educator. The mentorship, collaboration and shared commitment to excellence inspire her to push past her comfort zone.
