Smriti A. Agrawal, Ph.D. ’18

Smriti A. Agrawal, Ph.D. ’18 began her career at Baylor College of Medicine, where she focused on identifying the genetic causes of neurodegenerative disorders, utilizing next-generation sequencing and clinical validation through CRISPR
gene editing. Her work also led to the development of novel gene therapy based treatments for blindness. After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Agrawal co-founded Lazarus 3D, a startup focused on pre-surgical planning, where she helped develop Pre-Sure technology, the first FDA-cleared technology that allows surgeons to physically rehearse complex soft-tissue surgeries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a key role in providing personal protective equipment to the Texas Medical Center, helping to protect healthcare workers and reduce infection rates. Dr. Agrawal’s persistence, passion for innovation, dedication to patients and commitment to creating positive change in medicine have revolutionized surgical planning, ultimately improving patient outcomes and transforming the future of healthcare.
