Predicting Climate-Driven Disease Outbreaks

Predict Outbreaks.
Protect Communities.

Infectious diseases don’t wait. They don’t respect borders, and they don’t give communities time to catch up. As changes in climate drive new health threats into places they’ve never been, the question isn’t if another outbreak will happen—it’s when.

What we’re building at Baylor College of Medicine is more than a research project; it’s an early defense system for entire populations. It’s a way to see emerging diseases before they take hold, to protect the most vulnerable and to act before lives are lost.

This is the frontline of disease prevention—and the time to act is now.

VECTOR SURVEILLANCE

Our team is collecting and analyzing tens of thousands of mosquitoes and ticks to map which viruses they carry—similar to building a virus GPS for the Gulf Coast. It’s a critical mission, especially considering that mosquitoes are the world’s deadliest animal, responsible for more human deaths each year than any other creature. Hard at work, the team has already banked over 30,000 mosquitoes and ticks. Donor support will help us sustain and grow these efforts.
