Connecting Insight to Care

Digital Medicine and Artificial Intelligence

Building the Future
of Digital Medicine

Medicine is changing faster today than at any other moment in modern history. Every patient interaction generates valuable health information—from lab results and imaging to physician notes, medications and genomic data. When connected and analyzed together, these data points have the power to transform how we prevent, detect and treat disease. Yet in most healthcare systems, this information remains fragmented across clinics, hospitals and research environments.

Through the Data Science Solutions Center and a next-generation Learning Health System, Baylor is reimagining how healthcare information can be used to support more precise care and strengthen clinical decision-making. By integrating advanced data science and artificial intelligence into clinical workflows, Baylor aims to create a system that is constantly moving ahead and helping physicians respond to patient needs earlier while also uncovering new opportunities to advance care.

A Smarter Future for Care

The potential of a Learning Health System becomes most meaningful at the bedside.

Imagine a young mother receiving breast cancer treatment at Baylor College of Medicine. Today, her physician relies on clinical expertise and established guidelines to guide care. In a Learning Health System, those decisions are strengthened by data-driven insights.

As her imaging, lab and genomic data are analyzed, the system can compare her profile with outcomes from thousands of similar patients, helping identify the most effective therapies, potential risks and relevant clinical trial opportunities. Her physician remains at the center of every decision, but both physician and patient benefit from deeper insights. Over time, this approach makes care more precise, proactive and personalized while continuously generating knowledge that improves care for future patients.

Philanthropy in Action

At Baylor College of Medicine, we believe in Tomorrow’s Medicine Today. Through the Data Science Solutions Center and a next-generation Learning Health System, Baylor is building a more connected, responsive approach to healthcare. This work has the potential to reveal new insights into disease and help physicians deliver the right care at the right time for every patient. Your support will help advance the following three phases:

  • Capacity Building: Build the infrastructure, technology and collaborative environment needed to support a Data Solutions Center and the Learning Health System that it supports.
  • Implementation and Scale Up: Integrate Learning Health System capabilities into clinical care, expand innovative research initiatives, equip faculty and trainees with the skills to lead in digital medicine and accelerate the translation of discoveries into practice.
  • Transition to Sustainability: Recruit faculty leaders, strengthen data science expertise and establish the long-term foundation needed to sustain and expand Baylor’s vision for digital medicine.
