Annabel Langan, M.D. candidate ’29

In college, I became a teaching assistant in physics and chemistry for three years. I studied pedagogy and applied what I learned to help others, just as others had helped me. Consequently, when I came to the portion of the medical school application cycle to visit schools, I wanted to see that the faculty was excited and enthusiastic about how to teach, that they approached learning as a fun challenge, that they realized everyone is different. The only school that checked those boxes was Baylor. I am very grateful for all the support my family and friends have given me. I am also extremely appreciative of every donor who chooses to support Baylor. Because of you, I am confident that Baylor is the place that will help me excel in becoming a physician—and for that, I thank you.

I chose to pursue a medical degree at Baylor because I believe that this program will not only prepare me to be a well-rounded physician but also support the continued growth of my individual interests and strengths, helping me become the best physician I can be. Baylor’s strong reputation and community open doors for students to explore and participate in a variety of research and specialties, making it an ideal environment for them to become unique and impactful physicians. Baylor’s campuses in the Texas Medical Center and at Baylor Scott & White in Temple also heavily factored into my decision. Not only do both locations allow me to be close to my support system, but they also provide the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations and healthcare teams. I am beyond grateful that I can continue my journey and continue to grow in the place I have come to call home, surrounded not only by the support of my loved ones but also by the community that has helped raise me. I want to thank each and every Baylor donor and supporter who has helped make this a reality for me and so many others.

Baylor is a world-class institution that is paving the way in many biomedical research areas, and financial assistance has been crucial in enabling me to do impactful and rigorous research in the Chemical, Physical and Structural Biology program. For international students like me, the United States is a premier destination for doing scientific research. The generous support I received during my graduate studies has enabled me to help advance biomedical research, travel to share our discoveries and work toward improving patients’ lives.

I grew up in the Houston area since kindergarten after my family moved here in 2008. I later attended the University of Houston, where I earned a degree in biology this past year. When it came to medical school, I chose Baylor because of its innovative curriculum, strong student support, access to unparalleled opportunities in research and service and proximity to the Texas Medical Center. I hope to serve Houston as a future physician beginning with my studies at Baylor. Thank you to the donors who make it possible for future physicians to learn, serve and remain in the community we love.

Kade Johnson, M.D. candidate ’29

I was born and raised in Houston but left home for college at Brigham Young University, my parents’ alma mater. As I began preparing for medical school, I was attracted to the idea of returning home and by the international prestige of the Texas Medical Center. I chose Baylor for its reputation as an excellent institution for training physicians and the care I saw demonstrated for their students. I am excited to be back home in Houston, in a familiar setting with my support system close by. Practicing medicine in Houston means caring for the same people and places that shaped me, and I can’t think of a better foundation for a meaningful career. I am grateful for donors like you whose generosity plays a meaningful role in my education and in my ability to serve the people and places that shaped me.

Addison Saley, M.D. candidate ’29

I am from Seabrook, Texas, a small suburb southeast of Houston. I pursued my undergraduate education at Rice University to remain close to my family, take advantage of the Texas Medical Center and stay in the city I love. I chose Baylor in part because of my strong connection to Houston because this is my home. Beyond just the location, I was initially drawn to Baylor’s commitment to helping medical students develop into multi-faceted physicians. This is showcased through its curriculum structure, emphasis on community and well-being support for medical students. I am beyond grateful to Baylor supporters who help students thrive, which motivates me even more to work hard and make the most of my education.
