Thanks to a generous grant from the Scharbauer Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Educational Outreach partnered with Midland Independent School District (MISD) in 2025 to launch a district-wide STEM+M (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) pathway. This innovative program is helping prepare middle and high school students for future careers in health and biomedical sciences through engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that spark curiosity and build confidence in STEM+M fields.

Baylor faculty and educators from the Center work closely with MISD teachers, providing tailored curriculum materials and ongoing professional development to ensure the program’s success. The initiative expands Baylor’s growing STEM+M network, already making a difference in Corpus Christi ISD, Stafford Municipal School District and Houston ISD.
“At the Scharbauer Foundation, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities,” said Dan Hord, board member of the Scharbauer Foundation and member of the Baylor College of Medicine Board of Trustees. “We’re proud to help open doors for students in West Texas to explore meaningful futures in science and medicine.”
